NC is located in the northwest corner of North Carolina and is the
heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Incorporated in 1872, Boone has an
elevation of 3,333 feet making it the highest of any town of its size
east of the Mississippi. It has an average temperature of 70 degrees in
the summer and an average of 35 degrees in the winter with an average
of 3 ft. of snow. Boone was served by the East Tennessee and Western
North Carolina Rail Road, nicknamed Tweetsie, until the flood of 1940.
The population is 14,132 people, but when Appalachian State University
is in session, that number nearly doubles.
