High Country Women’s Fund Hosts POP Rocks! ‘80s Dance Party at Dragonfly April 2

Remember the golden era of big hair, leg warmers and MC Hammer pants? On Thursday, April 2, tease your bangs up big and join the High Country Women’s Fund in celebrating the 1980s with POP Rocks!: a totally awesome ‘80s dance party fundraiser at the Dragonfly Theater & Pub.

Taking place from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, POP Rocks! will include three solid hours of live ‘80s classics courtesy of Raleigh-based band tHE.DESIGN, ‘80s costume contests for women and men with $100 cash prizes for each, and a raffle featuring lots of prizes donated by local businesses.

Proceeds from this 80s-themed concert and dance party benefit High Country Women’s Fund (HCWF).

HCWF Advisory Council members Sarah Long and Erin Thompson organized the POP Rocks! in the hopes of attracting younger women to become involved with the nonprofit.

“There’s a lot of young women looking for opportunities to get involved with stuff,” said Long. “When I was at App I looked for things to get involved with in the community and ways to get give back to the community.”

Long and Thompson even took a road trip to make sure that tHE.DESIGN were up to their standards. “We went to Charlotte to make sure they were fun. I think they’ll get the crowd really engaged,” said Long.

HCWF Coordinator Catherine Scantlin echoed Long’s sentiments and is looking forward to a fun night of fundraising.
“We’re just really excited to be reaching out to such a different audience,” said Scantlin.

Local POP Rocks! sponsors include Absolute Style Hair & Nail Salon, Alpine Restoration, Capehart and Washburn General Contractors, Capone’s Pizza & Bar, Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff, Chick-Fil-A, Gladiola Girls, Lucky Penny, Sarah B. Long, Realtor and Watsonatta Western World.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. VIP Tickets are $30 and include one free drink ticket, a gift bag and ten raffle tickets. Purchase tickets in advance at Black Bear Books, the Dragonfly Theater and The Jean Pool or online at www.highcountrywomensfund.org using PayPal. Tickets purchased online will be available at will call on the evening of the event. A cash bar will be open at the event.
